Welcome to Faith!

Pastor’s Greetings

Welcome to the website of Faith Presbyterian Church, a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America. Here you can find information about our beliefs, our activities, our leadership, and our preaching and teaching. In accordance with the Scriptures, our purpose as a congregation is to glorify the true and living God through our worship, our fellowship, and our obedience to Him in every area of life—believing that there is no higher joy than to know Jesus Christ, the only Savior of sinners, and no greater task than to make His gospel known to all peoples, from the city of Florence unto the ends of the earth.

We invite you to join us this Lord’s Day to worship our Creator and Redeemer, to sit under the preaching of His powerful Word, and to meet our family of believers. “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!'” (Psalm 122:1)

Our Message

The good news is that, though we are naturally enemies of God from birth and want to seize the authority that belongs only to him, he does not treat us as we deserve. He gives us grace. In fact, he is the source of every good thing we experience in this life—from the sun he made to warm the earth to the air we breathe. All of this demonstrates God’s good will toward man, but it cannot reconcile us. So God gives us more grace: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:16-17). That is good news!.

Our Mission

Here at Faith, we seek to worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth, to equip the saints for spiritual maturity through Word and sacrament, to cultivate a community of love and service as the family of God, and to declare the Gospel to Florence and the world beyond.

Worship

We are committed to a biblical worship. As the Westminster Shorter Catechism states, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.” There is nothing greater than God. He is greatest not only in power and authority but also in beauty and excellence. It is God alone who is worthy of our worship. It is both our greatest pleasure and our greatest duty to worship God. If we are to “see” God it will be in his word, as we “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). That is why we believe that the Bible gives the substance for our worship as well as giving it direction. We “sing the word, pray the word, read the word, preach the word, and receive the word tangibly” in the sacraments.

Our Method

We are committed to the expository preaching of Scripture—that is, the clear explanation of what God’s word says and the personal application of that word to God’s people. We are committed to preaching the whole counsel of God contained in the books of the Bible for the building up of the people of God.

We believe that any power in preaching comes from God and his word, not from the preaching. It is the word of God that is “living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:12-13)
